Spousal Support

The court will consider many factors regarding the duration and amount of spousal support. Here is a short list of some of the factors used to consider spousal support:

  1. Length of the marriage.

  2. Ability of the parties to work.

  3. Property awarded to the parties.

  4. Age of the parties.

  5. Ability to pay spousal support.

  6. Health of the parties.

  7. Needs of the parties.

  8. Prior standard of living.

  9. Past relations and conduct of the parties.

  10. General principles of equity.

This is not a complete list of the factors used to calculate duration and amount of spousal support. Each case is unique and is treated as such. Contact a Michigan divorce attorney for more information on spousal support.
